Draft EAs for Lincoln Levees Available for Review

Two draft environmental assessments for bank repairs to levees along Antelope Creek and Salt Creek near Lincoln in Lancaster County, Neb. are currently available for public review.

The draft EAs evaluate the environmental impacts of repairing damage caused by high flows in October 2014 to one area along the Antelope Creek flood protection project and 17 areas along the Salt Creek flood protection project. Repairs to the Antelope Creek levee include reshaping the existing levee banks back to the pre-existing slope and replacing lost riprap along portions of the right and left descending banks.

Repairs to the Salt Creek levee include reshaping the levee banks back to the pre-existing slope and replacing lost bank material with compacted clay and riprap; constructing piggy-back levees at discrete locations if space is available; installing sheet pile cutoff walls, replacing lost sod, and filling sink holes along portions of the right and left descending banks.

These repairs will be completed under the Corps’ PL 84-99 Emergency Levee Rehabilitation Program.
