Works on the Montauk Project Start Soon

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded the Downtown Montauk Project, a key dune stabilization project in the First Congressional District of New York, announced Congressman Lee Zeldin.

On Friday, March 20, 2015, USACE awarded the Montauk project to the lowest bidder, H & L Construction, for $8.4 million.

This project is fully funded by the federal government, and sponsored by the Town of East Hampton. The restoration project will provide vital shoreline protection for Montauk residents.

Congressman Zeldin said, “Originally, this project was slated for completion before Memorial Day of 2015 before one delay after another continued to push this project back. This project is essential to the East End and I will continue to monitor the progress of this project to make sure it is completed.”

East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell said, “The emergency beach stabilization project is a critical first step in protecting downtown Montauk and our local economy short term. The Fire Island to Montauk Point Plan must follow quickly to provide the long term protection necessary for Montauk.
