Almost 100 pupils from Hamford Primary Academy made a visit to the new coast protection scheme at Holland-on-Sea.

The youngsters are learning all about the coastal region and also taking part in a competition to design new beach huts for the area.

Each of six groups was given a talk on the project being carried out along 5kms of the coastline between Holland Haven and Clacton Pier.

Tendring District Council (TDC) engineer James Ennos and Victoria Deakin from project managers Mott MacDonald were on hand to discuss the initiative and answer questions.

David Hitchin, a teacher at the school in Elmtree Avenue, Walton , said: “The pupils were very interested to find out about this project and the effect it is having on the coastline. We also took the opportunity to carry out various other beach activities.”

The project is being undertaken by VBA Joint Venture Limited and financed by TDC, Essex County Council and the Environment Agency.
