Repair Works for Newton Flood Banks

Coastal flood banks which protect homes in Newton, Porthcawl, are due to be repaired and strengthened by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) next month.

Engineers will use over 6,500 tonnes of stone rock armor to shore up the defense, which will make them more resilient to the effects of the tide in the future.

Phill Pickersgill, Operations Manager, from Natural Resources Wales said: “Like many of the coastal flood defenses across Wales, the banks at Newton took a battering during the 2014 winter storms. We undertook some emergency repairs directly after the incident, but in the long term, more serious work is required in order to maintain the level of protection to nearby homes.

The stone is being brought in by road this week and stored at the Newton Beach car park ahead of the construction work starting on 13th April.
