TID’s Dredging Simulator Training in South-Africa

In March 2015, the Training Institute for Dredging (TID) successfully organised the first dredging simulator training course in South Africa.

IHC Marine and Mineral Projects (IHC MMP) and TID hosted participants from the leading dredging and mining companies of southern Africa to IHC MMP in Cape Town for the three-day cutter suction simulator training.

For this course, TID used a simulator based on the IHC Beaver® 6518 dredger in order to familiarise participants with the working principles of a stationary cutter suction dredger and introduce them to the practical use of the equipment. The simulator is equipped with a modern dredging operator desk, featuring the latest controls and automation.

Along with a practical module, attendees gained a theoretical insight into a range of topics during classroom training. This included dredging equipment and operations, hydraulic process, approach and dredging in different soil types.

Participants were able to ask questions and, through the use of practical case studies, workshops and technical lectures, they are now better prepared for real-life dredging and mining operations.
