Holland-on-Sea to Get New Sand

Preparations are being put in place for the next major recharge of beaches at Holland-on-Sea at the weekend.

A temporary compound has been set up on the sand between Fernwood Avenue and Brighton Road and the area has been temporarily closed off.

A pipeline will be put together ready for the main recharge of Phase 2 of the new 5km coast protection scheme between Holland Haven and Clacton Pier. Work has already started on moving the pipes and this is likely to go on for several days. During this time there will be some disruption to people walking on the beaches in the area.

The equipment being used includes a bulldozer, excavator, loader, tractor and pipe trailer.

Nigel Brown, Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Communications Manager, said that all the activity over the coming days is likely to attract crowds, especially over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The project is being undertaken by VBA Joint Venture Limited and financed by TDC, Essex County Council and the Environment Agency.
