Guadiana Dredging Wrapped Up

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (Consejería de Fomento y Vivienda – Junta de Andalucía) has announced that the dredging operations at the mouth of the Guadiana river are completed.

During this €856,000 dredging project, about 63,000 cubic meters of sand was removed from the area, which is significantly more than planned 55,000 cubic meters.

The navigation channel is now 1,250 meters long and 60 meters wide, with a draft of 3.5 meters.

Most of the dredged sand has been used to bulk up the beaches at Isla Canela in Ayamonte, following the guidelines of the General Directorate of Sustainability and the Sea Coast in Spain.
