Rotterdam Hosts Port Infrastructure Event

The Port Infrastructure Development 2015 Conference will take place on September 1-3, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Focusing on every aspect of port development from expansion through to life extension, this event will deliver learning outcomes from the largest and most complex projects around the globe, discussing best practice planning, design, construction, delivery and asset management.

Ports will always need to extend the life of their structures to remain operational; but to take advantage of trade opportunities and remain competitive they are also looking at opportunities to expand.

Major hubs such as Port of Rotterdam are already focusing on expansion through Maasvalkte 2 and Port of Felixstowe through their Felixstowe Expansion Project. Like any project, there are multiple phases which often include projects like channel deepening, only adding to the complexity of the project which can compromise cost and time efficiency.

The alternative to this is utilizing land to expand and grow the port through dredging and reclamation, which is what London Gateway have done through their London Gateway Project.

Land reclamation is widely seen as a ‘greener’ way of expanding ports, increasing sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
