USACE Prepares EA for Anacostia Project

The Anacostia watershed is one of the most urbanized watersheds within the ‪‎Chesapeake Bay‬ Basin and has suffered from years of environmental neglect.

The USACE Baltimore District is preparing an environmental assessment for potential stream and wetland restoration projects in the Anacostia River watershed in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

In partnership with the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment, 10 miles of stream have been selected for investigation.

The district is requesting information on the study from the public and interested organizations by July 1.

The entire Anacostia River watershed consists of 14 major subwatersheds and the tidal portion, all located within the metropolitan Washington, DC region.

The watershed encompasses approximately 176 square miles in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
