Steart Coastal Project Shortlisted for BCI Awards

After winning the Environment Agency Project Excellence Award in April and entering the finals for the 2015 CIEEM awards, the Steart Coastal Management Project is now in the race for another one, the 2015 British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards.

The Steart scheme, carried out by Team Van Oord on behalf of the Environment Agency, has been shortlisted in the BCI Awards Civil Engineering Project of the Year – £10m to £50m category.

Aimed to help protect homes and businesses from flooding due to climate change and rising sea levels, the project is one of the largest managed realignment and habitat creation schemes ever carried out in the UK.

The project, designed and supervised by CH2M Hill, created more than 400 hectares of new intertidal habitat on the Steart Peninsula, located on the north Somerset coast at Bridgwater Bay.

The 2015 BCI Awards will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 14 October 2015.
