Queensland Ports Minister Mark Bailey has requested an independent review into plans to dredge a Gold Coast channel.

Mr Bailey has held talks with the Gold Coast Waterways Authority and the Australian Live-aboard Association on plans to dredge the Labrador Channel and change mooring arrangements for boat residents.

“ I want to make sure that all critical issues with this project have been fully assessed by a third party reviewer, ” he said. “ It’s all about ensuring all voices and all issues are heard and fully considered.”

Mr Bailey said that current plans to deepen the channel in July have been put on hold as environmental, safety, waterways planning and community matters were reviewed.

“ We want to ensure that the outcome is in everyone’s best interests, ” he concluded.
