Panama Canal Expansion – June 2015 (VIDEO)

A new video has just been released on the Panama Canal Expansion Program, the largest infrastructure project since the waterway’s original construction.

The Expansion Program will create a new lane of traffic along the Canal through the construction of a new set of locks, increasing the waterway’s capacity. The new locks will have three chambers, water-saving basins, lateral filling and emptying system & rolling gates.

With the last week’s flooding of the Third Set of Locks, last phase before the official opening of the canal, crews are continuing the installation of 152 valves that will control the water flow in the culverts and chambers.

The filling of the locks marks the start of the compliance and operation testing period.
