Mayor’s Update on NJ Replenishment

Upper Township Mayor Richard Palombo this week gave an update on the $64 million Army Corps of Engineers’ dredging project to replenish sand on the township’s beaches.

The north end from Hawthorn Avenue is done, the beach is tremendous in size, pipes are removed, walking paths over the dunes are complete and everything really looks unbelievable. The area that is guarded by township lifeguards around Williams Avenue is done and looks very nice,” Palombo said.

The dredge that completed this phase of the beach replenishment project from Ocean City to Avalon has moved to Avalon.

The machinery will return to Upper Township’s Hawthorn Avenue on July 1 as it proceeds to replenish beach sand south moving from Hawthorn to Whale Beach and then to Sea Isle City.
