Avalon Replenishment Nears End

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company LLC (GLDD) said today that over 600,000 cubic yards of new sand is on the Avalon beachfront in the northern end of the community.

The sand pumping operations, worth $6.3 million, are expected to conclude this week.

At the moment, the Avalon beach from 19th Street south to 26th Street is closed for the reconstruction of the beach. These beaches will likely remain closed for the next 48 hours or so.

Once the pumping of sand is completed, it will take Great Lakes approximately 5-6 days to remove all equipment and pipe from the Avalon beachfront.

This beachfill project is critical to the community to provide resiliency in advance of the Atlantic hurricane season.
