Bell Island Wharf Upgrades on the Way

A tender has been awarded to Coady Construction & Excavating Limited for improvements to the Bell Island wharf.

Just over $3 million is being allocated to prepare the wharf for the arrival of the new 80-meter ice class ferry, the MV Legionnaire in February 2016.

In total, government is investing close to $7 million to ensure the wharves at Bell Island and Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s are ready for the arrival of the MV Legionnaire. In addition to modifications to the wharf and the construction of a ramp for rolling vehicles on and off the ferry, the work will result in additional parking on the breakwater of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s,” The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works.

Work on the Bell Island wharf will get underway this construction season and will be completed for the arrival of the MV Legionnaire in February 2016.
