A draft supplemental environmental assessment (EA) for repairs to Deroin Bend chute in Holt County, Missouri, between Missouri River miles 519 to 517 is currently available for public review.

The draft supplemental EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the chute that occurred during the 2011 Missouri River flood.

Repairs are needed to prevent continued erosion of the chute caused by the 2011 Missouri River Flood and maintain the chute’s function as shallow water habitat.

Proposed repairs include the installation of six new dike structures designed to slow water velocities, accrete sediments and help maintain the chute’s designed alignment.

The riverward side of a notch through an existing rock structure within the chute would be lowered to prevent the chute from migrating outside its designed alignment.
