New Pipeline at Mooloolaba Beach

In another step to ensuring the region’s waterways and beaches are protected, the Sunshine Coast Council has extended the underground sand pipeline at Mooloolaba Beach to allow for improved sand renourishment.

Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said that the 450 mm-diameter pipeline now stretched between the rock wall at Mooloolaba Spit and Mooloolaba Surf Club.

Council has just installed an additional 600 m of pipeline between Urunga Esplanade and the surf club, which means we can pump sand up to Mooloolaba Beach when needed,” Cr Thompson said.

“We also have a pipeline that runs between Maroochydore and Alexandra Headland beaches so we can now protect and renourish all the beaches along this popular stretch.

“Sand renourishment allows the shoreline to respond to natural erosion events, enhances the dunes and ensures the beach can be enjoyed by residents and visitors.

“Council is working to protect the waterways and beaches across the region for everyone to enjoy, and beach rejuvenation is an important part of this,” concluded Cr Thompson.
