Putting Final Touch on the New Suez

The world’s largest dredging project is close to an end with only 24 days left for inauguration of the New Suez Canal.

So far, a total of 251 million cubic meters of sand has been removed from the New Suez Canal.

According to the project’s executive administration, this figure represents almost 96 percent of the targeted 258 million cubic meters.

With a daily rate of over 1 million cubic meters, all dredging works on the canal will be completed within next couple of days, after which the experimental operation of the new canal will start.

Official opening of the new waterway is scheduled for August 6, 2015.
