Picture of the Day: USACE’s Dredger Yaquina

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, has just posted on its official facebook page this beautiful photo of their trailing suction hopper dredger Yaquina.

So far this season, the vessel has traveled more than 4,500 miles while removing nearly a half million cubic yards of sediment from navigation channels on the Oregon Coast and in California.

Designed by USACE and built by Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corp., the Yaquina mission is to maintain federal navigation channels in the Pacific Northwest.

With the length of 200 ft and height of 100 ft, the vessel has hopper volume of 1,050 cubic yards and is purposely built to dredge and transport sandy material to an open-water relocation area.
