Sutherland Reservoir Dredging Kicks Off

The Sutherland Reservoir dredging project, undertaken by the Nebraska Public Power District, is currently underway.

This cleanup program is a process that is done on a yearly basis, according to knopnews2.com.

Chuck Troia, Nebraska Public Power District Canaday/Water /Renewable Energy Manager, said: “The high flows that we had in the river tends to bring in a little more sediment and it just dropped out and we just have to keep the channel open so that we can get water to the reservoir pump house at Gentleman.”

They are focusing their efforts on the east reservoir intake channel.

If we didn’t have the reservoir pumps to help us pump out of the reservoir to the plant then then we would have to reduce the load to Gentleman which would be very costly. We would just have to go to the market to pick up the added power that we would not need to be able to produce at the plant,” Troia added.

The Sutherland Reservoir dredging operations will last through December.
