Wismar Seaport Project on the Way

Construction works are about to begin on the €35.6 million Wismar Seaport development project, an important infrastructure and facility factor for the Hanseatic city.

According to the port chief Michael Kremp, works on the project will begin in October with the completion set for mid 2018. The project includes construction of a new 332m quayside and the creation of 41,500 m² of additional port area along with new rail track and access roads.

The prime minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Erwin Sellering together with energy, infrastructure and regional development minister Christian Pegel recently visited the port to hand out the notification of subsidies to Mayor Thomas Beyer of the Hanseatic city Wismar.

During the visit, Sellering was also presented with another major project – the deepening of the Wismar port’s approach channel from 9.5m to 11.5m.

Federal and State government will support the development with an amount of €23,5 million while the Wismar Seaport will invest around €12 million in the project as well.
