Latvian President Tours Port of Liepaja

The Latvian president, Raimonds Vejonis, during his recent visit to the Port of Liepaja met with the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (LSEZ) management and entrepreneurs of the port to discuss on-going and future development projects of the port.

LSEZ Deputy General Manager, Janis Lapins, introduced the president with the basic information about Liepaja Special Economic Zone – its purpose, advantages to entrepreneurs and results.

Port development projects were also discussed, including “Dredging of the port of Liepaja” and “Clean-up of the historically polluted place Liepajaport Karosta channel” projects.

Representatives of the port companies approvingly appreciated current results, but at the same time pointed out problems that need to be solved. Some of them include reconstruction of breakwaters and further port dredging, which would allow taking in larger vessels, increasing profitability and competitiveness.
