Livorno Expansion Plans Presented

“Europa Platform: an opportunity of investment in the Mediterranean sea logistic” was the title of the yesterday’s conference aimed at presenting the Port of Livorno expansion project.

The event introduced the project to the European Commission, European Port Associations, European Community Shipowner’s Association, Federation of EU Private Port Operators, other private parties and informed potential investors at the European and international level.

To achieve further growth and to keep the good market position, Livorno needs to invest in a new commercial quay, said Livorno’s Port Authority.

With maximum draught limited to 13m, the Tuscan port needs to push ahead with a new container terminal complex that will accommodate the ultra-large containerships.

The first vessel is expected to dock at the Europa Platform in 2016.

Livorno Port Authority will launch the tender procedure for the design and construction of the Europa Platform that should be published by the end of October.

The whole massive port expansion and land reclamation project is budgeted at €800 million with a considerable chunk of the funding already in place.

The terminal will have a 2,000m long quay with a 20m draught.
