Westchester Dredging to Finish Ahead of Schedule

The second stage of dredging operations near the Westchester shoreline will be completed this week, finishing ahead of schedule, the New York State Thruway Authority informs.

The work is being done in preparation for the removal of the existing bridge and to complete the landing of the new southern span which will occur in 2017.

Dredging is limited to during a three-month period from August 1 to October 31 in specified locations.

The dredge window was established to avoid impacting migration and spawning patterns of endangered sturgeon and other fish species.

Westchester and Rockland Marine Units are continuing extensive patrols to monitor the construction zone and encourage all boaters to obey the established U.S. Coast Guard safety protocols.
