Sandwich Beach Renourishment Gets Boost

Congressman Bill Keating joined Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton, Town Manager Bud Dunham and local and state elected officials at Town Neck Beach yesterday to announce a $1 million grant to offset the cost of bringing in sand to rebuild the Sandwich beach and dune system.

“It’s vital that our three levels of government work together to address the results of climate change that have severely impacted Sandwich’s coast and beach protections,” said Keating.

Beaton added that that the Baker administration is committed to addressing impacts of global change and sea-level rise as well as what Mother Nature has tossed at the Sandwich shoreline over the past three winters.

We are facing a changing climate, and we as humans haven’t done much to address that changing,” Beaton said. “Now we’re here to start changing things and renourish our beaches. It’s important to get ahead on this issue, and the Baker administration is committed to investing in our coastal communities.”

Sandwich Town Manager Bud Dunham thanked Beaton’s agency and the Baker administration for their support in efforts to rebuild the shoreline at Town Neck.
