USACE Awards Santa Ana Contract

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, has awarded a $22.5 million contract to John S. Meek Company, a Gardena, California-based firm, to construct Reach 9-Phase 5A, north bank protection, along the Santa Ana River in Orange County, California.

The contract calls for the construction of improvements to an existing 4,083-foot section of the ungrouted stone bank protection, which will include replacement of 980 feet of ungrouted stone with 24-inch grouted stone and construction of 3,273 feet of steel sheet pile wall.

The segment of the lower Santa Ana River channel is part of a 30-year, approximately $2 billion project to reduce the risk of flood damage along the river’s 96-mile journey from Seven Oaks Dam near San Bernardino to Huntington Beach, where it flows into the Pacific Ocean.

Work is scheduled to begin this winter and be completed by mid-2017.
