Weeks Marine Inks Houston Dredging Deal

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, has awarded a contract in the amount of $4.8 million to Weeks Marine Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel from Exxon to Carpenters Bayou in Harris County, Texas.

The contractor will be required to remove approximately 600,000 cubic yards of maintenance material using a pipeline dredge.

The Port of Houston is one of the world’s busiest ports, consistently ranking first in the nation in foreign waterborne tonnage; first in U.S. imports; first in U.S. export tonnage and second in the nation in total tonnage and is a vital component to the local, state and national economies,” said Tricia Campbell, an operations manager with the USACE Galveston District’s Navigation Branch.

Dredging allows the Corps to fulfill its mission of providing safe and navigable waterways for vessels importing and exporting goods to and from the Port of Houston and industries along the channel.”

According to Campbell, dredge material will be placed at the Peggy Lake and Lost Lake placement areas.

Work is scheduled to begin October 2015 with an anticipated completion date of May 2015.
