Middle Park Beach Dredging Kicks Off

The City of Port Phillip is about to begin Middle Park Beach dredging and beach renourishment works.

The works will involve dredging around 60,000m³ of sand which will be spread out to create a larger beach profile with an initial width of 35 meters.

The project, being undertaken jointly by the City of Port Phillip and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), will renourish Middle Park Beach between Mills and Langridge Streets.

According to the Victorian Regional Channels Authority (VRCA) notice, dredging will be undertaken by a vessel-mounted cutter suction pump.

Dredged material will be deposited for beach renourishment at Middle Park Beach. The pipeline extends 1km from the dredge zone to the beach and is marked at 100m intervals with unlit A-5 orange buoys.

Middle Park Beach is a major recreational and foreshore asset for both Port Phillip residents and the wider metropolitan community. It has been maintained by renourishment programs since the 1970s with the most recent temporary top up of the beach undertaken in December 2005 while a longer term solution was being investigated.
