McMillan Island Scheme About to Begin

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is scheduled to begin a dredged material unloading project this week at McMillan Island, near Guttenberg, Iowa.

J.F. Brennan Marine from La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Corps’ contractor, will soon mobilize to the site and should complete the unloading project by the end of November.

The contractor is removing 150,000 cubic yards of dredged material from the island and permanently placing it at the Corps’ Buck Creek Upland Placement Site near Guttenberg.

The Corps is asking everyone near the site to exercise caution during the unloading project.

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
