Council Approves Barnstable Dredging

Phase one of the Barnstable Harbor dredging project that will remove some 8,000 cubic yards of sand has been approved by the town council.

The decision to approve the $490,000 worth request for dredging of the outer entrance of Barnstable Harbor was reached at Thursday’s town council meeting.

Work on the phase one will begin in November, with the second phase set to take place next fall.

According to Barnstable Department of Public Works Director Daniel Santos, the second phase of the inner harbor dredging, which requires a different technique and different disposal, still needs permitting.
