Chichester Dredging Starts Soon

The Chichester Bar dredging program is planned to take place from Thursday, 29 October – Sunday, 1 November 2015, reported the Chichester Harbor Conservancy.

Dredging operations will be undertaken by the trailing suction hopper dredger Sospan Dau.

The 73 m-long dredger will rainbow the dredged material onto the seafront at Hayling Island. It takes approximately one hour to complete the discharge process after which the vessel returns to the dredge area for the next load.

The Chichester Bar varies in position and height and is periodically dredged to maintain a charted depth of 1.5 m.

The width of the dredged channel across the Bar is a little less than 200 yards.
