Bids Invited for Burry Dredging

Carmarthenshire Council has put out a tender calling for the experts to provide the best options and costs for the Burry Port Harbor dredging project.

In July, Carmarthenshire County Council members agreed that maintenance will continue with annual sand dredging along the approach channel and as much as much of the harbor basin as possible.

We have to be confident that the best advice is sought on how to carry out a major dredge of the harbor and we look forward to receiving tender responses by the end of this month,” said councillor Meryl Gravell.

Annually, sand dredging at the harbor costs around £40,000 while the silt removal costs approximately £400,000 and must be carried out every 10 to 12 years, the Llanelli Star reports.

The amount of sand and silt drifting into the harbor is dependent on the weather, and the sand removal is usually done in April, ahead of the summer season when the harbor is at its busiest.
