Dune Value Workshop at ASBPA

With the belief that improved research and communication are critical to managing dunes, at the end of October the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) hosted a workshop on “Dune Management Challenges on Developed Coasts.”

This event brought together more than 100 academics and practitioners from around the world to wrestle with the challenges and bridge the gap between the research of coastal scientists and engineers and the needs of coastal management practitioners.

The format was conducive to an extremely productive discussion,” said Margarita Wells with the city of Miami Beach, FL.I was very excited to share the work that we are doing in the City of Miami Beach and look forward to contributing to the ongoing conversation about dunes on developed coasts.”

Workshop participants identified the need to leverage existing resources to develop a strong and diverse community of practice to provide an information clearinghouse to share comparative case studies, disseminate large datasets and facilitate continued communication.
