ICE Green Port Event Next Week

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is about to hold an event “Green Port Hull: The design of the marine structures for the New Offshore Wind Turbine Assembly Harbor, Hull” next week (24 November) at the University of Hull Enterprise Centre.

At the event, speakers will present and discuss the development of this new port in Hull.

Together with development partner Associated British Ports, Siemens is investing £310 million in an offshore wind turbine blade production facility and assembly harbor for installation vessels at Hull’s Alexandra Dock.

ABP has appointed the Graham Lagan Joint Venture to develop the marine civil engineering elements of the Alexandra Dock site and work is currently 12 months into the 27 month program.

Work carried out by the Joint Venture contractor includes infilling one third of Alexandra Dock with approximately 780,000m³ of material and reclaiming 7.5ha of the riverside to create a new 650m quay wall, which can accommodate three offshore wind installation vessels.

Construction will also involve dredging a new berth pocket, completion of earthworks and surfacing, building internal access roads and service networks, construction of a new roll-on/roll-off ramp and demolition of some existing buildings.
