Van Oord Completes Koper Gig

Van Oord has just completed the €1.7 million worth Luka Koper dredging project.

The Slovenian Maritime Administration confirmed this by issuing a provision, which allows the arrival of vessels with a maximum permissible draft of 14.5 meters in the north part of the port’s Basin I.

During the project, Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger Dravo Costa Dorada removed over 66,000 m³ of sea sediments from the area.

The dredging works come as a part of a broader development plan that includes investment in the port’s infrastructure and equipment.

Luka Koper recently placed orders for various handling equipment. The port ordered two STS super post-panamax cranes with an outreach of 24 rows, to be operational in June 2017.

After the extension of the quayside for additional 100 meters, planned for 2018, the port will buy two more super post-panamax cranes. This will enable the port to operate even bigger vessels with the capacity of 20,000 TEUs.

In addition to STS cranes, Luka Koper has also ordered two Rail Mounted Gantries (RMG) for loading/unloading of trains. The extension of existing three terminal railway tracks and the construction of two more are currently underway and will be concluded in February 2016.
