Fire Onboard Chinese Hopper Dredger in Haifa

A China-flagged hopper dredger anchored at Haifa Port was set on fire this morning, the Times of Israel reports.

Firefighters from the Haifa Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire three hours after it began on the hopper dredger Hang Bo 3001.

According to an initial investigation, the fire was started accidentally by welders working on repairs to the vessel.

The vessel’s crew escaped to shore unharmed.

The dredging ship Hung Bo 3001 carries out underwater digging and is used to deepen and clear the sea-bottom of ports.
