Part of Promenade Closed for Seafront Coastal Repair Work

A section of Southsea seafront has been closed while work is carried out to repair coastal defenses, according to the Portsmouth City Council.

An area directly behind the Pyramids Center has been cordoned off following the breakdown of part of the sea wall.

Portsmouth City Council is working with the Environment Agency and East Solent Coastal Partnership to carry out the necessary repair work as soon as possible.

Leader of the council, Cllr Donna Jones, said: “Fortunately funding for improvements is already in place and we’ll be making sure the work done marries up with these plans.”

The seafront coastal defenses are nearing the end of their working life and £86m funding to replace them has already been agreed in principle by the Environment Agency.

This permanent replacement work, subject to business case approval, is expected to begin in spring 2017 and repairs will be made in the meantime to ensure the area remains safe.
