Minister Inaugurates Mormugao Port Capital Dredging

Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, inaugurated the capital dredging scheme at the Mormugao Port cruise berth in Goa last week.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Mormugao is going to be the first port in the country with a draft of 19.5 m.

After the completion of the dredging program, the vessels with the capacity up to 185.000 t will be able to embark in the port.

At the moment, the port can accommodate only up to 80.000 t vessels. Shri Gadkari also added that a draft of 18 m is essential for the future development planning of any port.

The minister further said that in order to transport goods from Goa to Hospet in Karnataka via road and rail, the government intends to double the rail track.
