Navarre Beach Renourishment Presentation Next Week

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners will hold its regular meeting on February 11 at 9 a.m. in the Tiger Point Community Center in Gulf Breeze.

The final item on the agenda will be a presentation of the Navarre Beach renourishment project and the associated Municipal Services Benefit Unit (MSBU) funding formula as proposed by Coastal Technology Corporation.

In December 2015, County commissioners approved the contract for beach restoration with Weeks Marine Inc., the lowest bidder at about $14.9 million.

The two other bidders proposed a contract time of about a year, with significantly higher bids of about $16.8 million and $25.9 million.

The company, who handled the 2006 Navarre Beach renourishment project, is expected to begin work in March and to complete the project within 190 days, according to the contract.

This beach renourishment scheme will stretch from the Eglin AFB property line to the east to Gulf Island Seashore property to the west.
