USACE Releases Strathmere Beachfill Ballet Video

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company are pushing forward with a beachfill project in Strathmere, N.J.

The project is part of a bigger scheme, which involves the southern end of Ocean City as well as Ludlum Island (Strathmere and Sea Isle).

In Strathmere and Sea Isle, the dune will be approximately 15 feet in elevation and the berm 50 feet wide, requiring a minimum of 2.6 million cubic yards of sand.

The project – a joint effort of the Corps’ Philadelphia District, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and GLDD – will make New Jersey’s coastline more resilient to future storms and rising sea levels.

The work is expected to be completed by April 2016.
