Works Start on Water of Leith Flood Alleviation Scheme

McLaughlin & Harvey has begun works on the second phase of the Water of Leith flood alleviation scheme in Edinburgh, UK.

Design and build works include construction of piled structural walls and earth embankments, approximately 1,500m and 600m respectively, associated flood gates, and the provision of pumping stations to assist with drainage on the dry side of the wall.

The project also includes demolition and removal of four bridges and the provision of two new bridges over the river.

Ancillary works include utility diversions, drainage, reinstatement of roads, hard standings, footpaths, and the provision of hard and soft landscaping.

The completed project will protect private properties and businesses from flooding from the Water of Leith.
