Mongla-Ghoshiakhali Channel Dredging Gets Support

The Bangladeshi Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry has recommended continuing dredging of the Mongla-Ghoshiakhali channel under the supervision of Water Development Board, the Financial Express reports.

The recommendation was made at the 26th meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban – the house of the Bangladeshi Parliament.

Shipping Minister, Shajahan Khan, and other committee members, M. Abdul Latif, Ranajit Kumar Roy, M. Anwarul Azim and Prof. Mamtaz Begum Advocate, attended the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the overall activities of 23 land ports in the country and hoped that revenue income from those ports will increase with the rise in bilateral trade with neighboring India, Bhutan and Nepal.
