Jan De Nul Signs Payra Port Dredging Contract

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Payra Port Development Project was signed today between the Payra Port Authority (PPA) and Jan De Nul.

Under the agreement, Jan De Nul will conduct major capital dredging and civil engineering work on about 35 nautical miles in Rabnabad channel in Kalapara of Patuakhali.

Bangladeshi Shipping Minister, Shajahan Khan, and Secretary of the Shipping Ministry, Ashok Madhab Roy, were present at the singing ceremony at the shipping minister’s official residence in Dhaka.

“This is one of the first track projects of the present government to help expedite the economic prospect of the country,Minister Khan said, adding that the capital dredging will be completed by the first half of the next year.

“Dredging of a 10 meter deep channel, development of multipurpose and bulk terminals and port infrastructure will be completed by 2018 under the mid-term plan,” he said.

Payra Port Authority Chairman, Captain Md Saidur Rahman, inked the agreement on behalf of the Port and Danny De Hert of Jan De Nul put signature for the Luxembourg based dredging contractor.
