Sigatoka River Dredging on the Way

New round of Sigatoka River maintenance dredging is expected to begin later this year, according to the agriculture minister Inia Seruiratu.

He said that tenders for the work were advertised last December but the project was put on hold because of the TC Winston.

It will be done in 3 stages and we hope to extract 1.2 million cubic meters of silt. The first stage will be undertaken in 2016 – 2017 period involving the first 3.5km from the bridge to the river mouth that is due to start this year,” said minister Seruiratu.

He also announced that the Tuva River is a priority too. “Right now the scoping is being undertaken by the ministry. The priority is in the major towns,” added Seruiratu.

Assessments are also being undertaken for the Rewa River.
