LTC Czekanski to Take Command of USACE, Buffalo District

Lt. Col. Adam Czekanski will assume command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, from outgoing commander Lt. Col. Karl Jansen.

The formal change of command ceremony will take place July 7 at 10:30 a.m. aboard the USS Little Rock located at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, One Naval Park, Buffalo NY.

“I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as the next commander of the Buffalo District,” said LTC Czekanski.

“This organization is highly respected throughout the community and the Corps of Engineers for their engineering expertise, technical competence and commitment to public service.”

The Buffalo District delivers engineering solutions to the Great Lakes Region, the Army and the U.S. in order to ensure national security, environmental sustainability, water resource management and emergency assistance.

District in a Nutshell

  • Area of Responsibility covers 38,000 square miles;
  • Has 16 commercial and 19 recreational harbors;
  • Maintains five of the top 100 United States ports;
  • Has 110 miles of federal navigation channels;
  • Has 1,683 miles of shoreline along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River;
  • Maintains 38 miles of piers breakwaters and jetties;
  • Is the Lead Radiological Waste Design Center for the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division;
  • Is the Designated Regional Sediment Management District for the Great Lakes;
  • Designed the United States portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway;
  • Operates Mount Morris Dam and Visitor Center;
  • Operates Black Rock Lock;
  • Is a member of the International Niagara Board of Control.
