Port of Koper Development Program Adopted

The Slovenian Government yesterday adopted its port development program for international traffic for the 2016–2020 period, providing investments into the port’s infrastructure in the total amount of appropriately €290 million.

Major investments planned by the concessionaire Luka Koper for the 2016–2020 period include an extension of the pier I by 100 meters towards the west (in the value of €5.2 million) and an extension by 150 meters towards the east onto the existing land in the area of RO-RO terminals (in the value of €34.4 million).

After the reconstruction of berth 7 and deepening of the eastern part to a depth of 15 meters (in the value of €8.5 million), the Port of Koper container terminal will have enough space to handle two ships with a length between 350 and 400 meters simultaneously. This will allow the port to remain competitive in comparison to the neighboring ports.

The investments into the construction of the new RO-RO terminal (in the value of €9 million) will also be of great importance, as well as the construction of berth 12 (in the value of €23 million) for the needs of general cargo.

More than €160 million will be invested into the construction of port pools, quays and areas for the disposal of excavated marine sediments, €20 million into the modernization of the port’s road network and new entrances, and €15 million into the modernization of the port’s rail network and its extension by several kilometers.
