Mackley Completes Barge Dock at Al Zour Oil Refinery

Mackley has successfully completed a project to create a barge dock at the new Al Zour Oil Refinery to the south of Kuwait City.

The project, which was subcontracted to Mackley by Van Oord, took six weeks to complete with the assistance of the local workforce.

The barge dock provides a heavy loading berth which is essential for the construction of the Al Zour Refinery which, when complete, will be the largest in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world.

The works undertaken by Mackley included the design, supply and construction of the barge dock combination wall.

With the project successfully completed, the barge dock will now receive construction equipment and materials arriving by sea, some of which will weigh more than 400 tons.

The Al Zour Oil Refinery is being constructed on land reclaimed by Van Oord in a ‘sabkha area’, a salt plain near the coast, 30 kilometers north of the Saudi border.

This refinery will produce an impressive 615,000 barrels per day and has a strategic goal of supplying low-sulphur fuel.
