Canada to Invest $68.2M in Newfoundland Harbors

The Government of Canada is investing $68.2 million this year in small craft harbor improvement projects across Newfoundland and Labrador.

According to Dominic LeBlanc, the minister who made the announcement, the $68.2 million will be invested in sixteen harbors throughout eastern Newfoundland and the Bay de Verde Peninsula.

Five of these harbors will see their investment extend into future years for an additional $14.6 million.

This includes funding for multi-year projects at Bay de Verde to reconstruct the fish plant wharf and the north side breakwater, which was destroyed by fire this past April.

Additional projects at this harbor include repairs to the north side service and storage area as well as the completion of the south side breakwater reconstruction project that began last year. This work will provide a safe working environment for harbor users over the long term.

More details regarding investments at other harbors in Newfoundland and Labrador will be provided in the coming weeks.
