Spotlight on Pullman Shoreline Program

The City of Pullman updated its program for protecting and maintaining the shorelines of the South Fork Palouse River within city limits.

The city submitted it to the Washington Department of Ecology for review and approval.

Now Ecology is making the shoreline program available for public review and comment through August 26.

The city joined Whitman County and six towns in a regional planning process to update their shoreline programs, then individually submitted them Ecology.

Pullman shared environmental studies and an inventory of current shoreline conditions with the county.

Once approved by Ecology, the locally tailored program will guide construction and development along the river and become part of the overall state shoreline master program.

The town of Malden also was part of the regional update and will submit locally adopted programs for state review later this year.
