USACE Detroit District Welcomes New Commander

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, held their 54th change of command ceremony, yesterday at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

Lt. Col. Dennis Sugrue assumed command as District Engineer of the Detroit District. As D.E., Sugrue will oversee about 400 employees and a program worth more than $800 million.

The district’s area of responsibility includes Michigan, parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana, totaling an area of 82,000 square miles of land and 4,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline.

The district maintains 611 miles of channels and 95 harbors including connecting channels of lakes Superior, Michigan Huron, St. Clair and part of Lake Erie.

This work is carried out through four area offices located in Detroit, Grand Haven and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Duluth, Minnesota.
